Watsons National Day Pillow

Watsons was creating a set of pillows that was given out as a national day promotion. We were tasked to come up with a direction and illustrate it. They want a design that is locally relatable but also needs to be an original illustration.
Despite it being a one week rush project, we managed to conceptualise and illustrate in time for the deadline.
I am tasked to illustrate the proposed concept, recreating the icon national food dishes with a twist.
To expand on the concept, the design team has come up with several concepts such as historical architecture as well as local slangs.
The client has chosen to focus on local food and puns related to it.
At the start, we worked on the lineworks of the concept before sending to the client to approve. The following pictures will show some progress shots as well as final product photography.

YOU ARE MY BUTTER HALF!
Inspired with the kaya toast, it was conceptualised to draw each bread slice as a couple, flirting with the iconic pun.
AH-LEMAK!
Inspired by the Nasi Lemak dish, it is paired with the pun with the phrase "ALAMAK". "Alamak" is a Singlish interjection that means "oh no". It is drawn as if the Nasi Lemak character is tripping.
